Mr Takia grew up building and sailing canoes. Additionally, he sailed with his father on the a motor boat and on their sailing yacht. Mr Takia has also sailed with his brothers across a vast ocean off the Marshall Islands as well as sailing his canoes on various traditional canoe races all throughout the Marshall Islands. He is acknowledged as a master canoe builder and sailor, and for the last few years he has been a trainer at the WAM program.
